Man, what a great 2017 Open it was. There were lots of fun highlights, and I am sure we will not be able to mention all the great performances we saw, but we wanted to do a little recap of the 2017 Open.
OUCH. I think we can all say that 17.1 just hurt. Lots of dumbbell snatches and burpee box jump overs. If you remember, we co-hosted Friday Night Lights with CrossFit Ktown and CrossFit Bearden and had a phenomenal crew show up. You guys were AWESOME volunteers! Thanks for cheering, judging, checking people in, and just being so supportive of everyone competing. Not to mention, we had about 10 people compete at Friday Night Lights (Dolly Parton shirts and all), and everyone did amazing.
I think our butts felt the aftermath of 17.2 for a good week. What a fun workout though. More dumbbells, except this time we had lunges, toes to bar, dumbbell cleans, and pullups or bar muscle ups. First off, everyone killed this workout! From Jessica getting 6+ rounds, to Jake and Dan powering through bar muscle ups, it was an amazing week. Our highlight was 6pm on Monday where the gym was packed and everyone was cheering as loud as they could! Nicki re-did her workout and with Cody's help (Judge of the week award) had a HUGE PR from her 1st attempt. It was so fun watching everyone on this workout, and seeing people push past what they thought was possible.
I think was probably one that challenged people the most. Squat snatches are a highly technical movement, but nonetheless you guys showed up and were ready to attack the challenge. Saturday morning, several of our ladies decided to tackle the workout first, and tackle it they did. Not only did they do amazing work, but multiple PR's were hit on snatches, which was really fun to watch. During classes on Monday, we continued to see PR's, and lots of energy cheering each other to the next round. Well done!
This was probably the most fun to watch! Who doesn't love a good ol chipper with lots of deadlifts, wallballs, rowing, and some pushups/handstand pushups to finish it off with. One highlight would have to be the Dolly Parton crew doing 17.4 at "Saturday Morning Lights", and when the DJ played only Dolly Parton music as a tribute to you guys! Well done! That followed by some Taste of Thai, and then cheering on Cody in 17.4 created a pretty great start to 17.4. Monday, everyone came in here ready to attack it, and attack you guys did. Multiple times you guys far exceeded what you thought was possible. It was a fun workout to watch and to see you push each other on through each movement.
10 rounds: 10 thrusters & 35 double unders or single unders. No time cap. What a fun way to end the 2017 Open! This was probably one of our favorite days at the gym, as the momentum and energy was high for each class. Maggie decided to come back from Iceland and crush through the thrusters and jump roping at 6am (she must have picked up some of that Icelandic CrossFit power while visiting). Another fun moment was at 6pm when Dan had 1 minute to finish the workout, and finished with 15 seconds to spare. It was fun hearing the whole gym cheering to help him finish.
THAT is what we love about CrossFit. To see how it brings everyone together, regardless of skill level, profession, age, or background. THAT is what we love to see, and you guys epitomize that daily. We are so proud of each and every one of you, and could go on and on about the highlights we saw every week (and continue to see daily). The fact that each of you chooses to spend an hour in the gym and move forward towards your health, when we know time is your most precious commodity, is very humbling, and you continue to amaze us.
So to wrap up the 2017 CrossFit Open, here is a huge congrats and thank you. We are so grateful for the way you are each choosing to move forward. Just because the Open is over, keep moving forward. Set goals. Push your limits. Be determined to go after what is important to you. Yes, some of those goals might be inside the 4 walls of the gym, but we hope you also continue to move forward towards dreams and goals you have outside the gym as well. Thankful for you guys, and let's keep moving forward.
